Although it was chilly on the afternoon of December 25, Nanjing Ningyan Primary School for Migrant Children was oozing with laughter. Dozens of employees from Sanpower Volunteers Society (SVS) impersonated Santa Clauses, and sent Christmas gifts like computers, stationery, sports equipment to the children, spending a memorable Christmas with them. Sanpower Group Vice President Yue Lei launched and participated in the charity event.
SVS staff had been carefully preparing for this charity event for a month, during which time they had visited Nanjing Ningyan Primary School for Migrant Children many times so as to learn about the actual needs of the school. Due to various reasons, the school conditions need optimising, with timeworn hardware and a lack of multi-media teaching facilities. After communication with the school, SVS staff elaborately raised computers, stereos, table tennis, notebooks etc., as well as various Christmas equipment. At school recess time of the very day, dozens of well-dressed Santa Clauses slipped into the classrooms with small gifts. The frolicking kids, who were taken by surprise, played with Santa Clauses later. Some of them even danced "Little Apple" with Santa Clauses, their singing and laughter echoing over the campus.
Vice President Yue Lei insisted visiting each classroom, sending a simple stationery set for every child. Besides, he amicably interacted with the children, hearkening to their desires. The children eagerly raised their hands and uttered out their dreams—policeman, doctor, even little princess. Touched by the kids’ innocence, Vice President Yue Lei smiled and said that next time he would bring a small gift corresponding with each one’s dream. He also spurred them to “harbour dreams determinedly, pursue dreams dauntlessly, and realise dreams conscientiously”, adding that they must adhere to their ideals whenever and wherever they are, studying hard and doing what they can do, changing their fates with knowledge, and serving society in the future. Afterwards, the kids sang Happy New Year to express their thanks to the volunteers.
The time together was always so transient. As the SVS volunteers were ready to leave, the bell signaling the end of class sounded. Kids darted downstairs like flitting swallows and immediately surrounded a Santa Claus who hadn’t removed his makeup yet, sending small gifts like wallet, Christmas card to him.
During the activity, Sanpower Group and Nanjing Ningyan Primary School for Migrant Children also held the opening ceremony for “SVS Pairing Support Base”, which was meant to continue to promote the development of the school. Vice President Yue Lei said that such activities are not one-time, and that Sanpower’s volunteer activities will become a norm in the future. “We’re always on the road of charity,” he said.
