At 4:00 a.m. on December 31, the chefs of Sanpower Group were busy ushering in its special guests—more than 70 sanitation workers from Yuhua Neighbourhood and Saihongqiao Neighbourhood of Yuhuatai District, who would be entertained with morning tea in Sanpower Group.
At 6:30 a.m., Vice President of Sanpower Group Yue Lei greeted the guests at the headquarters gate. As they walked into the staff canteen of Sanpower Group, the steaming breakfast was ready, including millet congee, pumpkin porridge, stuffed buns, fried dumplings, oily sticks, eggs, milk, which were fairly rich and nutritious. Having such breakfast, the sanitation workers were grateful and touched. One worker said that they usually brought some steamed buns themselves for breakfast, which had become cold when they had time to have breakfast. As a result, they had to gulp down the buns with hot water—sometimes even without hot water. They could rarely enjoy such warm and nutritious breakfast.
Vice President Yue Lei said that tens of thousands of sanitation workers toil day and night tirelessly in order to create a beautiful Nanjing. Sweaty in sunny days and muddy in rainy days, they are the "Yellow Roses" as well as "Beauticians" of the city. They can not go home on time in holidays, since all the Chinese traditional festivals are "May Day" for them. They stick to their posts, quietly dedicating themselves without regrets, bringing cleanness and beauty to the city for the festivals.
Speaking of the original intention of entertaining the sanitation workers, Vice President Yue Lei explained that breakfast is the most important of the three meals. However, long-term sanitation work has made it difficult to ensure that the workers can enjoy warm, full and tasty breakfasts, which subjects them to gastrointestinal problems and severely affects their health. By organising this event, he hoped to make due contributions to engender a meaningful New Year’s Day for them. While enjoying a hearty breakfast, each sanitation worker also received a vacuum corn cup, a bag of rice, and a pot of oil. “We find it inconvenient to drink water during work. In the past the cup I used was a plastic one, and the water turned cold soon in the winter. Now with the vacuum cup, I can drink hot water anytime and anywhere." A sanitation worker said joyously.
Vice President Yue Lei said that the activity today was a conscious effort of Sanpower Group to actively fulfill corporate social responsibility, and strive to practice the socialist core values. Caring for vulnerable groups has become a long-term mission for Sanpower Group, and has been raised to a strategic level. In order to mobilise all forces to help more people, Sanpower Group has set up Sanpower Volunteers Society (SVS), which holds serial events under the theme of “Public Good Sanpower” on a regular basis. The events were intended to stimulate more Sanpower colleagues to embark on public good, as well as pool stronger social positive energy, hoping that such positive energy can exert an influence on more businesses and people of all circles so that they can participate in charity and public good, and carry forward the Chinese traditional virtues of philanthropy. In the future, Sanpower Group will send warmth and love to more sanitation workers, and expand the scope of benevolence to make it benefit more people. “We will be increasingly ‘wayward’ on the road of embarking on public good.”
