In early March this year, when Prince William visited China for the first time, Chairman of Sanpower Group Yuan Yafei accompanied the Prince to Xishuangbanna to visist the wild Asian elephants, and reached a consensus with Prince William on co-establishing the Wildlife Conservation Fund. On the afternoon of April 8, Ms Barbara Woodward, the new UK Ambassador to China, Matthew Forbes, Deputy Consul-General of British Consulate-General Shanghai and their entourage visited Sanpower Group, and further exchanged their views on initiating the Wildlife Conservation Fund. Chairman Yuan Yafei met Woodward and the entourage at the Group's headquarters. Yue Lei, Senior Vice President of the Group, and Vice President Wu Gang were also present.
Led by Yue, Woodward and the entourage first visited the Showroom of Sanpower Home. During the talks, Woodward handed Prince William's letter over to Chairman Yuan, in which William expressed thanks to Yuan for his support in protecting wildlife, and hoped to continue to protect wild animals with Sanpower Group so as to raise the whole China's awareness of wildlife conservation. During her visit, Woodward exchanged in-depth views with Yuan on initiating and implementing the Wildlife Conservation Fund.
Yuan appreciated Prince's letter, saying that as Member of the CPPCC, he had made the proposal at this year's CPPCC, with a view to involving the folk strength in wildlife conservation. Sanpower Group and the UK embassies in China have respectively set up the link-up personnel and will implement the Wildlife Conservation Fund in terms of fund size, ways of cooperation, etc.
Woodward and Forbes are old friends of Sanpower. Shortly after she assumed the post this February, Woodward had accompanied Prince William to participate in the GREAT Festival of Creativity in Shanghai, and had many contacts with Yuan in Shanghai and Yunnan, while Forbes had personally visited the Sanpower Group this January.
