On April 24, a delegation headed up by Senior Vice President of Sanpower Group Yue Lei met with Victoria Hornby, Director of the UK's Royal Foundation at Kensington Palace, the private residence of The Duke of Cambridge Prince William, where they discussed co-promoting the "public welfare agreement" made in Yunnan between Prince William and Sanpower’s Chairman Yuan Yafei. Relevant officials from the UK Department of Environment and the Royal Foundation attended the talks.
In early March, the Duke of Cambridge Prince William visited China for the first time and attended the official opening ceremony of the GREAT Festival of Creativity in Shanghai. After meeting with Sanpower’s Chairman Yuan Yafei during the event, the Prince extended an invitation to Chairman Yuan to travel together to Yunnan to visit a wild Asian elephant sanctuary. During his trip to Yunnan, Prince William delivered a speech appealing to the international community for active engagement in the conservation of wildlife. Prince William also met privately with Chairman Yuan and they reached an agreement to jointly establish a Wildlife Conservation Fund.
During the talks, Victoria Hornby outlined the purpose and missions of the Royal Foundation and the British government’s current efforts in preserving wildlife and combating wildlife smuggling. SVP Yue Lei said that he travelled to the UK specifically to discuss the "public welfare agreement" between Prince William and Chairman Yuan, as well as the official establishment of the Wildlife Conservation Fund. After two hours of in-depth discussions, the two sides set up a working group and outlined the communication platforms and timetable for the implementation of the Fund and its objectives, thereby marking the conversion of the idea of the fund into practice.
