Recently, House of Fraser (HoF), a subsidiary of Sanpower holding Nanjing Cenbest, gave a donation worth of £26,735.26 to British charitable institution “Action for A-T”, which is also the largest outright gift “Action for A-T" has received so far. HoF CEO Nigel Oddy was present for the donation and awarded a check for £26,735.26 pounds to the institution in person.

This donation was jointly made by business partners, store brand dealers, service providers, cooperative banks, logistics companies and other institutions of HoF. HoF raised a total of £267,000 for charity in 2015. This donation for “Action for A-T” was the 12th charity activity it has sponsored.

"A-T”, short for Ataxia Telangiectasia, is a genetic disease which can result in neural degeneration, and even severe disability in serious cases. This disease is far more common in infants. It can damage certain areas of the brain, including the cerebellum and lead to difficulties in body movement and coordination. Meanwhile, the weaker immune system leaves the sick open to infections from other diseases. This disease also inhibits damaged DNA from self-repairing, and increases the patient’s chances of developing cancer.

"Action for A-T” was founded in January 2012 and is a charitable institution established by the parents of children with A-T. As Britain currently dedicates little funding to A-T research, this institution hopes to support scientific research into the treatment of A-T and aid its alleviation through constant fund-raising. Parents of children with A-T hope their continuous efforts bring hope to both their children and others suffering from A-T. The donation from HoF will provide a further glimmer of hope to “Action for A-T” and millions of children with A-T and their families.

Generally, HoF prefers to raise funds for those charitable institutions with the same values which it knows personally, and is dedicated to donating to charitable institutions caring for children. HoF has always believed that such donations have even more significance when compared with other larger and better-known charitable institutions.

In the meantime, HoF CEO Nigel Oddy was offered the role of charity ambassador by the charity institution retailTRUST.

RetailTRUST is the only charitable institution caring for 4.5 million employees in the retail industry and retirees from the retail industry. Whatever difficulties members in this group run into, retailTRUST tries to provide support and assistance within their capabilities. Since retail enterprises provide employees with different backgrounds with different jobs, many employees over the age of 21 are offered the minimum wages or wages close to the minimum level. Their ability to resist risk is poor. In case of accidents, this group is very vulnerable, and it is very difficult for them to cope with unexpected circumstances. In view of this situation, retailTRUST provides services intended to ensure that such groups in need of help are able to get appropriate help and support in a timely manner.

At present, retailTRUST provides a free confidential hotline offering help, free guidance services, legal advice, debt proposal, hardship assistance, countermeasures for layoffs, course funding, retirement housing and other related services.

In fact, the series of charity events organised by HoF follow the philanthropic ideas of Yuan Yafei, Chairman of Sanpower Group—“The fruit of development shall benefit society first”. Recently, the fifth congress and first meeting of the fifth council of the China Society for Promotion of the Guangcai Program was convened and Yuan Yafei was elected as Vice Chairman. Sanpower Group has always been an active facilitator of the public good. From the protection of global wildlife to the establishment of Sanpower Volunteers Society, Sanpower Group has always shown “love” for people and society through its actions.
