“I volunteer to join the Communist Party of China, support the Party’s guiding principles, and abide by the Party constitution…” In the afternoon of 5 May, a group of neatly dressed and serious young people make the solemn declaration in the Yuhuatai Martyrs’ Cemetery. “This is my first time at the Martyrs’ Cemetery, and I reaffirmed the oath for joining the CPC, so I feel particularly solemn. In this environment, I can’t help but feel respect and grief for revolutionary martyrs. We can only cherish the present and work hard for the future if we remember the past,” said Cheng, who joined Sanpower Group this year. Seventy new party members participated in the oath-taking ceremony, which was also attended by Yang Huaizhen, party secretary and president of Sanpower Group, Zou Yan, deputy secretary of the Party Committee and vice president, and Dai Keqin, deputy secretary of the Party Committee.
Party building is a boost to company growth
Sanpower Group is a large information-based private company that works in the modern service industry and buildsgrowth synergy in the new consumption, health and other industries. The Group counts Hiteker, Nanjing Cenbest and many other listed companies among its subsidiaries, has more than 100 individually owned companies and controlled companies, and employs over 100,000 peopleworldwide, including 40,000 overseas employees. At present, the Group’s total assets exceed RMB 120 billion and the total annual sales have reached RMB 130 billion. It has been on the list of China’s top 500 enterprises for 13 consecutive years, and ranked132 in 2016. It also ranksnumber 19 among China’s top 500 private enterprises and 10 amongChina’s top 100 private service enterprises by the All-China Federation of Industry and Commerce (ACFIC).
A large private companyheadquartered in Nanjing, Sanpower Group has continually explored modelsfor Party-building in the private economy. With the development of the company, party members have been gradually increased, and the grassroots party organisation has been continuouslydeveloped. In September 2009, the Chinese Communist Party Sanpower Group Limited Committee was formally established, whilein February 2011, the first Private-Enterprise Party Discipline Supervision Committee in Nanjing was formally established within theGroup. Along the way, each transformation of Sanpower Group was inseparable from the concernof the party organisation and the wisdom of party members. The care of the Party and the strength of party members have become a boost for the company’s growth.
Enriching forms of learning and consolidating the effect of learning
As of early May this year, Sanpower Group had 3,088 party members, with approximately62% being young party members under the age of 35 and more than 90% members having bachelor degree or above. As a private companywitha large number of party members having obtained ahigh level of education, Sanpower Group attaches great importance to building the Party at the same time as creating social value, and constantly enriches forms of learning touse learning in work and consolidate the effectiveness of learning.
Through interactive teaching and open courses, the Group concentrates its efforts on making party member education targeted and interesting, thereby helping solve the problem of making learning effective and introducing a new approachfor consolidating the effectiveness of learning. In addition to developing fixed and standardised systems as the “three meetings, one lecture” set up, democratic life meetings and the democratic appraisal of party members, the Group also organises various types of irregular courses, focusing on strengthening the effectiveness of learning content.
On 16 March, the Sanpower Group Party Committee invited Li Lifeng, vice president and doctoral supervisor at the Nanjing University School of Management, to give a special report entitled “The Adaptive Transformation of the Communist Party of China” at Sanpower’s headquarters. Party organisations and party members at all levels inthe Nanjing systemand a numberof party activists participated in the event. Li Lifeng said in the report that in the current circumstances, the Communist Party of China is facing four major challenges, which aregovernance, reform and opening up, the market economy and the external environment. Therefore, the CPC needs to be constantly rebuilt and restructured. ThisprovidedSanpower people with theoretical support for theirideological transformation and changes in their action.
To implement the important instructions of General Secretary Xi Jinping, the Party Committee of Sanpower Group is deepening and expanding its real learning and doing, integrating it into daily routines,thereby consolidating the learning through repetition, and expandingthe learning outcomes through routinisation andinstitutionalisation. In mid-April, Sanpower Group held a Party knowledge contest among party members system-wide and newly recruited activists. The competition covered modern Chinese history, the history of the Communist Party of China, important documents of the CPC, the Party constitution and a series of key speeches by General Secretary Xi Jinping. The event attracted the participation of more than 100 party members and the finals will be held at the group headquarters in mid-June.
On 5 May, at the Yuhuatai oath ceremony for Sanpower Group’s new party members, Yang Huaizhen, the president of the Group, said that “The blue mountains stand silently and green waters flow forever. We should always remember and celebrate the revolutionary deeds of the martyrs, inherit the martyrs’ legacy, and stay true to their mission to move forward. We should normalise and institutionalise studies on theoretical and practical issues inParty-building, andmeeting the standards forparty members, make strict demands on ourselves at thestandards set forparty members, give full play to the leading and demonstratingrole of party members, and strive to realise the great Chinese dream.”
Using learning in work, creating a Party-building brand
To create Sanpower’s Party-building brand, the company first strengthenedthe core role of the leadership, with Yang Huaizhen personally servingas the party secretary. Second, revolving around the premise of normalising and institutionalisingParty-building, Sanpower Group promotes the use of learning in work, and uses purposeful action to develop Sanpower’sParty-building brand.
In order to integratethe building of the Party organisationwith the company’s development, Sanpower Group is creating the patriotic drama Yuhuatai. To do more practical work on Party-building,provide the traditional revolutionary “red” education to the party members within the system, and at the same time, expand the external propaganda efforts of Sanpower Group and improve the Group’s national and global visibility, the Sanpower GroupParty Committee invited famous experts to create a modern revolutionary TV play set in Yuhuatai highlighting the red themes of the times. The main thread of the TV play will be the more than 20 years of Sanpower Group’s development; the script’s name is Yuhuatai. At present, the project has been formally filed for production with SARFTand announced publicly onthe SARFT official website. It is in the scriptwriting stage and shooting is expected to start in mid-September.
With a focus on the details, Sanpower Group is committed to implementing studies on theoretical and practical issues in Party-building, andto meeting the standards for Party members. In unified arrangements for the Sanpower GroupParty Committee, each Party branch inSanpower Group is actively implementing studies on theoretical and practical issues in Party-building andefforts to meet the standards forparty members in accordance with the general requirements to study and follow the Party’s rules, be upright, examine one’s own behaviour, and proactively resolve problems. The Party branch of Hirealty has called on all party members to actively develop a platform for building a mobile grassroots Party and organized a knowledge contest on the Party constitution and speeches.The Party branch of Hisap created a wall on thestudies on theoretical and practical issues in Party building, andmeeting the standards forparty members, and a book display on learning on the Party constitution and speeches. The Wuxi Optical Cable Party Sub-committee continued to care and help old comrades and disadvantaged retired workers. At the same time, after making Communist Party position ID cardsand giving them to each party member in Hiteker, the Group’s Party Committee organized for all of the members of the grassroots Party branch to study best practices in the Party branches of Hiteker and Hirealty in Marchthis year.In April, all units in Sanpower Group produced party membership cards, and will take their posts after 1 May.
Sanpower Group has created a Party activity centre, establishing a home of activities for party members. This year, the Sanpower GroupParty Committeedecidedto expand the Sanpower Group Party Member Activity Centre at the company headquarters.The Centre will showcase the glorious history of theCPC, Sanpower Group’s more than 20 years of growth, and the honours that have been bestowed on the companyin recent years. Rules and regulations such as the Party constitution, the party flag, the party oath and the three meetings, one lecture policy will be posted on the wall. Records of Party and member events, pictures and honourssince the establishment of the Sanpower GroupParty Committee will be collected and displayed. Meanwhile, books, pictures and videos on Party-building willbe purchased to createa window display of the work of the Party Committee and images of party members. This will be shown to the public and become a placeof learning, activityand communication by party organizations and members in the Group.
“The CPC must manage itself and Party-building shall achieve full coverage. We need to actively promote Party-building amongprivate companies, adjust Party-building according to the situationand encourage the healthy development of companies.” Since its establishment 24 years ago, under the leadership of Chairman Yuan Yafei, Sanpower Group has always firmly believed in socialism with Chinese characteristics, hadconfidence in company development,and worked to stay credible with the public. It continues to forge ahead and work hard, becoming a legend in the business world. The Party-building road is long; therefore, private companies muststrengthen their convictions and move forward emphasizing both Party-building and development.
