Purple Mountain (also Zijin Mountain, literally meaning the purple-golden mountain) is the “mother mountain” of Nanjing, as well as the green lung of the city. In order to make our “mother mountain” breathe more freely and smoothly, over 50 staff from Sanpower Volunteers Society (SVS) went to Purple Mountain on November 23, 2014, picking up garbage as they climbed along. This activity has not only added to the splendour of Purple Mountain, but also injected vitality to the participants’ body and mind.

SVS volunteers departed from Baima Park, along the footpath and the Tianwen Road, all the way to Purple Mountain Observatory. During the climbing, they scavenged plastic bottles, cigarette butts, paper scraps, orange peel, etc., and flung them into the garbage bag carried with them. Fully motivated, they exerted themselves to pick away all the “discordant notes” that tainted Purple Mountain. Their minor efforts have made the landscape behind them more beautiful. Although some volunteers climbed out of their breath due to lack of exercise, none of them straggled or gave up. Dressed in the SVS’ red vests, the volunteers became an eye-catching autumn scene on Purple Mountain. Many visitors cast affirmative looks and smiles to them, taking the initiative to drop their litter into the volunteers’ bags.

The charisma of Purple Mountain will not do without you! Through this event, SVS hopes to raise more people’s awareness of loving and preserving our “mother mountain”, keeping the beautiful scenery in eyes while leaving no rubbish on the mountain.

Since its establishment on December 23, 2013, SVS volunteers have carried out charity events under the theme of “caring the old and the disabled, helping the poor and the students, preserving the environment”, and have organised the staff to donate for volunteer teachers in remote mountainous areas, provide ambulance knowledge training, pigeonhole garbage, recycle old clothes, etc., which have exhibited Sanpower Group’s commitment to promoting public good and assuming social responsibility.
