Council Finalized 2017 Autumn Auction with Sales Reaching 1.6 Billion RMB

On early morning of December 5, Council’s 2017 Autumn Auction was finalized in Conference Center of Beijing International Hotel. In the 31 auctions lasting two days, 1.6 billion RMB sales were made. 14 items that worth more than 10 million RMB were sold. The Nine Dragons Playing with Pearl Seal made of Shoushan Tianhuang Stone by Guo Xiangren was auctioned at 109 million RMB in the Special Session of Tianhuang Stone, creating the world record of Tianhuang Stone auction.
The four night auctions in Chinese calligraphy and paintings made total sales of 544 million RMB. The Painting Collection of Du Fu’s Poems by Shi Tao made a new auction record at 69 million RMB, which also made the highest auction price for Chinese calligraphy and painting in the autumn auction. The Snow Landscapes by Liang Kai at 16.10 million RMB made the auction record of his works. The Western Garden Paintings made by Chen Shaomei also created a new auction record of his works at 25.30 million RMB.
Three night auctions were organized for Porcelain & Others, which saw the most precious royal items in Ming and Qing dynasties auctioned at 131 million RMB. The Blue & White Dragon and Phoenix Double-ear Vase Porcelain in Emperor Jiajing Period of Ming Dynasty was auctioned at 15.64 million RMB. At From Demon to Buddha –Himalaya Special Session of Private Collections, 8.3203 million RMB of sales were made for White Glove Auctions.
11.06.93 by Zhao Wuji made the highest sales in contemporary art at 18.40 million RMB. The two Special Sessions of 20th Modern Art and Contemporary Art made total sales of 101 million RMB.
At Chengdao – Night Auction of Ancient Paintings, 32 boutique items were auctioned at 194 million RMB. The Painting Collection of Du Fu’s Poems, created by Shi Tao in his later years in Yangzhou, had the starting price at 30 million RMB and auctioned at 69 million RMB, making the record for the auction and for this piece of work. The Landscape of Taoist Fang Mei by Wang Yuanqi was auctioned at 23 million RMB, ranking No. 2 in the auction. The Yupu Hanyan, by Qian Weicheng in Collection of Shi Qu, was auctioned at 17.25 million RMB. The Snow Landscapes by Liang Kai was painted in dry ink. With far-reaching atmosphere, it is the classic masterpiece in the Academy School of Landscape Painting in Southern Song Dynasty. The 16.10 million RMB auction price created the price record of the painter.

The total sales in Chengdao – Night Auction of Ancient Paintings reached 208 million RMB. Fishing Boat in the Evening, drawn by Zhang Daqian for his lover Li Qiujun, was auctioned at 36.80 million RMB, making the record high in the auction. Painting of Friend Visit on Snowy Night, the masterpiece of Fu Baoshi in Jingang Po Period, was auctioned at 28.75 million RMB, ranking No. 2 in the auction. The Western Garden Paintings by Chen Shaomei also created a new auction record of his works at 25.30 million RMB.

Chengdao – Night Auction of Qi Baishi selected 50 boutique pieces of Qi Baishi ranging from those with traces of antique modeling to the seemingly God-made masterpieces in his elderly age. After two-hour auction competition, the total sales volume reached 97.1635 million RMB, making the wonderful result of White Glove. The Mountain Painting in Summer, given by Qi Baishi to General Zhi Po in the War Department of Beiyang Government was auctioned at 16.10 million RMB, creating a record high in the auction. The Double Shou (Longevity) Characters and Two Birds on Dry Vines were auctioned at 4.6 million RMB and 4.4275 million RMB.
“Changhuai – Night Auction of Calligraphies” made total sales of 43.654 million RMB. The Semi-cursive Script of Chairman Mao by Guo Moruo made the highest auction price at 5.175 million RMB. The Shide Calligraphy of cursive script copied by Fu Shan was auctioned at 4.37 million RMB. The Self-made Four Poems of Jin Nong was auctioned at 3.795 million RMB.

In this autumn auction, a few Special Sessions were organized from the perspective of culture and art history. The more than 100 masterpieces of Special Session of Cypress Garden Owners’ Collections of Chinese Painting and Calligraphies are mostly the best works of academic, political or artistic celebrities since the late Qing Dynasty. These works were auctioned at 15.6665 million RMB. The Special Session of Paintings and Calligraphies on Fans in Ming and Qing Dynasties auctioned 107 works totaling 41.6346 million RMB. The Spring in Green Mountains by Tang Yin made the record high in the auction at 2.99 million RMB.

Special Session of Paintings and Calligraphies by Masters of Inscriptions on Ancient Bronzes and Stone Tablets made total sales of 26.0487 million RMB. The Tablet of Huangpu Fujun inscribed in Yuan Dynasty was auctioned at 2.3 million RMB. The Special Session of Seal Cutting on Stone Seals auctioned 150 pieces in two categories, namely, the premium stones and seal cuttings by famous masters, which were auctioned at 13.3596 million RMB. The Qingtian Stone Square Seal inscribed by Wu Rangzhi for Zhang Xizu made the record high in the Special Session at 2.645 million RMB.
Lot 3384 Qingtian Stone Square Seal inscribed by Wu Rangzhi for Zhang Xizu was auctioned at 2,645,000 RMB.
The Special Session of Letter Manuscripts of Celebrities auctioned nearly 200 letter manuscripts written by celebrities totaling 16.3162 million RMB. The 15 Letters to Jugong by Zhao Zhiqian were auctioned at 2.0125 million RMB. The Special Session of Calligraphies of 20-century Masters auctioned 250 calligraphies at 22.1386 million RMB.
The Special Session of Ancient Paintings and Calligraphies sold the more than 200 masterpieces of Shen Zhou, Wang Chong, Dong Qichang, Wang Duo and Fu Shan at 49.902 million RMB. The Special Session of Modern and Contemporary Paintings and Calligraphies sold more than 300 paintings and calligraphies with clear origin and owners at 58.9743 million RMB. The Huangyangjie in Jinggang Mountains by Lu Yinshao was once collected in Xuhuai Zhai, which made the record high in the Special Session at 3.335 million RMB.

The Special Session of Contemporary Paintings and Calligraphies auctioned works at 49.9215 million RMB. The Photo Observing created by the urban water-ink painter Tian Liming made the record high in the auction at 6.67 million RMB; and the Buddha painting Kshitigarbha by Litang Jushi was sold at 4.6 million RMB.
Special Session of Tianhuang Stone auctioned the more than 100 Tianhuang stone and their carvings totaling 296 million RMB. The Four Smart-animal Seal made of Shoushan Tianhuang Stone by Guo Xiangren started the auction at 45 million RMB and concluded the auction at 95 million RMB, meaning the total price at 109 million RMB with commission, breaking the world record for Tianhuang stone auctions. This Nine-dragon Tianhuang Seal is the largest Tianhuang Stone seal ever known in the world. It has the large size and exquisite quality, whose idea and techniques are really amazing, making it known as the No. 1 Shoushan Stone Seal in modern time. The pair of Shoushan Hongtian Crude Stones was auctioned starting with 7 million and concluding at 12.50 million RMB, making the final sales at 14.375 million RMB, creating the high record of per-diagram price for Shoushan Hongtian crude stone.

Three night sessions were organized for Porcelain & Others. In the Special Session of Single-color Glazed Porcelain for Use of Emperor Yong Zheng sold three most valuable pieces of single-color glazed porcelains specially made for Emperor Yong Zhen. These porcelains reveal the taste and competency of the owner of Baixuan Study. The Glazed Jar of Peacock Feather Kiln was auctioned at 8.97 million RMB. The pair of rouge-glazed plates with chrysanthemum petals, made in imperial kiln of Emperor Yong Zheng was auctioned at 7.13 million RMB. The rouge-glazed small and high-foot glass, which has the smallest size ever known, was auctioned at 3.45 million RMB. The Night Session of Artistic Porcelains auctioned 63 porcelains in various kinds totaling 74.4717 million RMB. The Zhongni-type ancient musical instrument “Elegant Instrument” was auctioned at 7.13 million RMB. The Special Session of Imperial Porcelains of Emperor Jiajing and Emperor Wan Li in Ming Dynasty auctioned 21 pieces of porcelains in the period totaling 37.283 million RMB. The Blue & White Dragon and Phoenix Double-ear Vase Porcelain in Emperor Jiajing Period of Ming Dynasty was auctioned at 15.64 million RMB.

In the Porcelain & Others Section during the Autumn Auction, the special sessions of antiques, Ming & Qing Porcelains, porcelains in modern and contemporary periods, Buddhism art, purple sands tea sets and tea were launched. Even more, the Eaglewood & Rosewood Special Session and Special Session of ink stones from Fanhai Ju were also organized. The Special Session of Purple Sands Ware and Tea Sets made total sales of 7.4313 million RMB. The Bamboo Cup by Chen Mingyuan was auctioned at 1.84 million RMB. The Special Session of Changqi Teas auctioned the premium Pu’er Tea at 20.7472 million RMB. The 100-year Round Can of Tongxing Tea in Republic of China Period was auctioned at 5.6925 million RMB. The From Demon to Buddha –Himalaya Special Session of Private Collections sold 35 exquisite pieces totaling 8.3203 million RMB and making the record high in the session. The Manjusri Buddha in Malla Dynasty in the 13-14 Centuries was auctioned at 3.9675 million RMB. The Special Session of Buddhism Art sold a few pieces of Buddha statues and Thangka in early Himalaya stage or in large size, totaling 29.3952 million RMB. The Manjusri Buddha in the 10-11 Centuries made the record high in the session at 9.43 million RMB.
The Special Session of Antiques auctioned many boutiques in various kinds totaling 22.1881 million RMB. The Three-foot Animal-Ornamented Incense Burner in the 18th Century made the record high in the session at 2.3 million RMB. The Special Session of Ink Stones from Fanhai Ju sold 148 pieces in various kinds, most of which were Duan Ink Stone, Xi Ink Stone and Chengni Ink Stone with exquisite pattern and materials. The special session made total auction sales of 9.8383 million RMB. The Special Session of Modern and Contemporary Porcelains auctioned more than 80 works made by Zhoushan Eight Masters and modern/contemporary porcelain masters, totaling 26.442 million RMB. The three pieces of Blue & White Porcelains in the set of Fishing with Friends made by Wang Bu in the Republic of China period made the record high in the session at 11.50 million RMB. The Special Session of Ming & Qing Porcelains made total auction sales of 10.2626 million RMB. The Glazed Red Gourd Bottle for Fortunes was sold at 49.45 million RMB. The Special Session of Eaglewood & Rosewood made total auction sales of 18.2862 million RMB. And the Porcelain of Along the River During the Qingming Festival was auctioned at 2.645 million RMB.
The Contemporary & Modern Art of Council launched two special sessions of 20-century Modern Art and Contemporary Art. While probing into traditions, they also make breakthroughs in the new field. The Special Session of 20-century Modern Art auctioned works at 49.0372 million RMB. 11.06.93 made by pioneering painter Zhao Wuyi was auctioned at 18.40 million RMB. The Untitled – 106 of Wu Dayu and Rosa Multiflora by Wu Zuoren were auctioned at 6.555 million and 3.45 million RMB respectively. The Special Session of Contemporary Art made auctions of 52.0858 million RMB. Light Peach Blossoms by Zhou Chunya was auctioned at 9.545 million RMB, making the record high in the auction. Besides, Dam – Internal and External by Zhang Xiaogang was auctioned at 9.2 million RMB. Scenery by Liu Wei was auctioned at 5.52 million RMB and Wind & Air of Xu Lei was auctioned at 1.15 million RMB.

Special Session of Precious Jewelry and Western Jewelry auctioned many boutique pieces of jewelry at 45.9448 million RMB. The 32.86-carat Colombia diamond necklace with emerald and 27.06-carat Colombia diamond earring set with emerald were auctioned at 10.35 million RMB.
Special Session of Moutai from Jiujiu Tang made sales of 24.8308 million RMB. The Moutai Produced by Local stated owned bodege in 1983-1986 was auctioned at 1.771 million RMB. The Special Session of Nutrient Products from Jiujiu Tang auctioned more than 80 nutrient products totaling 4.3528 million RMB.
