MUJI and Loft Visit Sanpower Group, Multi-national Tycoons Put Weight Behind New Retail

Recently, Satoru Matsuzaki, President of MUJI, and Ando Koki, President of Loft, met with Sanpower Chairman Yuan Yafei and his team at Sanpower’s head office. Wu Gang, President of Sanpower Group New Commerce Industry Group, and Kong Jun, CEO of Sanpower Group New Commerce Industry Group were present at the meeting.
The guests visited Sanpower head office, Sanpower International Plaza and Nanjing Cenbest Center, where renowned British toy store Hamleys and, century-old British department store House of Frase are located.
Japanese life style retailing has transformed from marketing pure products to selling way of life. MUJI and Loft are large, popular names with beaming shops on the streets in Japan. MUJI, in keeping with Japanese fashion of aestheticism and middle-class life style, is familiar to Chinese consumers. Muji has operations in 28 countries around the world and approximately 200 stores China. Muji and Loft opened a joint shop in Yarakucho, Tokyo before. Founded in 1996, Loft is regarded as the “black hole” of cost and time for street shopping. It attracts and provides creativity for life, and worked with the Museum of Modern Art in New York to open MoMA Design Store, which has been scaled to 112 stores in Japan.
Visit by the two Japanese retailer giants aims at working with the New Commerce Group of Sanpower on New Retail development, and connect supply chains. The three parties had in-depth discussion in business operation, branding, and supply chain optimization.
Nanjing Sanpower International Plaza West Wing
It is reported that MUJI plans to open an Asian flagship store inside House of Fraser located at Nanjing Sanpower International Plaza. The Asian flagship store, once up and running, will take on new look in floor space, and assortments.
Wu Gang noted that, in the age of diverse commodities and retail channels, partnerships with multi-national retail tycoons offer Chinese consumers diversified solutions for the life styles of Chinese consumers. He further expressed his aspiration for the Asian flagship store to provide better experience for Chinese consumers.
